The best walking tours in Lisbon
Lisbon has always been one of my favorite cities. There are many museums and historic buildings in Lisbon, as well as chilled-out cafés and clubs where you can listen to traditional music. As soon as I arrived, I was in love with this city. It was even better on my second visit!
Lisbon is today one of the most visited cities in Europe. Everyone loves this sunny city, from cruisers and digital nomads. I’ve been to the town a few times over the years, and I always look forward to going back. The welcoming colors and warm weather make everyone feel at home.
A walking tour is the best way to explore a city (especially if this is your first visit). When arriving in a town, I always take a walking tour. It is the best way to meet a local, learn insider information, and see the major sights.
There are many walking tours that you can take to make the most out of your trip. This list will help you choose the best time for you – whether it’s free, food-related, or a pub crawl.
Walking
It is my favorite tour operator. The tours are always fun and educational.
There are several tours available in Lisbon (including food tours), but if you want to get a feel for the city, I recommend the Lisbon In A Day tour. The time includes a riverboat cruise, early access to the Jeronimos Monastery, and lunch. The whole day is included!
Lisbon Chill-Out Tours
This three-hour tour will take you through Lisbon’s five most popular neighborhoods: Graca (Graça), Alfama (Alfama), Baixa (Baixa), Chiado and Bairro Alto. You will learn about the history and culture of each neighborhood.
These tours focus on the local side of Lisbon. This tour is perfect for those on a tight budget who want to get a taste of the city. Remember to tip your guide!
You can make the most out of your stay in Lisbon by taking a walking tour.
- Devour
Devour began in Spain and soon started doing tours in Lisbon. Devour offers a fado and food tour that combines two cultural highlights in Lisbon into one tour. I like their Tastes and Traditions food tour. You stop at seven small businesses, eat up to nine sample dishes and drink three various beverages. Devour, one of Europe’s best food tour companies, offers Lisbon tours that are to be noticed.
- Inside Lisbon
The company offers many tours, but the Best of Lisbon tour is an excellent option for first-time visitors to Lisbon and budget travelers. The time lasts three hours and starts at 9:30 am. You will visit some of Lisbon’s most important neighborhoods and stop to taste the famous pastry, pastel da nata. Group tours are limited to 14 people.
- City Guru Street Art Tour
Lisbon is one of many big cities where street art has become popular. This three-hour walking tour will show you some of the most beautiful works in Lisbon and explain the political and social motives behind each one. The times are also led by local street artists, giving you a unique insider look at the scene. You’ll visit murals that other tours tend to skip.
- Pancho Tours
Pancho offers tours throughout the Iberian Peninsula. They use local guides, create itineraries that include street art, wine, and tapas, and take day trips to places such as Sintra. Their Fado tour is my favorite. You’ll learn all about Portugal’s melancholic, endemic music during this 2.5-hour tour. Ultimately, you’ll have a front-row seat to a fado performance in Lisbon.
- We hate tourism tours.
In many cities, especially in Europe, over-tourism is a significant problem. Crowds of people are constantly moving from one attraction or another. We Hate Tourism Tours was born out of the desire to take you on a 3.5-hour walking tour that takes you into some neighborhoods off the radar to see how people in Lisbon live. The tour is intimate, with only six people. Booking in advance is also recommended, as the tours are top-rated. They are taking people away from the tourist areas to show you a more authentic view of Lisbon. This tour is fantastic.
- Discover Lisbon Pub Crawl
Lisbon’s nightlife is very vibrant these days. If you want to experience it and meet other travelers simultaneously, then the classic pub crawl would be a great way. The tour will take you to three spots with free shots at the first two. There’s also a 1-hour session of unlimited cider or sangria. This is a good option for those traveling alone and looking to meet new people. It’s not really “local,” but it is fun!
.
Lisbon offers walking tours to suit every budget and interest. This is why I love this city. Every time I visit Lisbon, I take at least two terms because there is so much to do and see. The local guides are always a great addition to the trip. You can get a real insider’s perspective of the city and even ask locals for advice on what to do and where to go. Take at least one tour while you’re in the city.
